The advertised position is going to contribute to the BMWi project “Highly efficient Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 thin-film solar cells and modules by improvements of functional layers and interfaces
(EFFCIS-II)” with the aim of promote enhanced understanding of structure-property relationships in Cu(In,Ga)Se2 solar cells. The aim of the scientific work at HZB will be the increase of the band-gap energy of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 by the addition of Ag as well as a control of its microstructure and their impact on the optoelectronic properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 absorber layers.

Topic of the doctoral thesis:
“Electron microscopic investigations of structure-property relationships in (Ag,Cu)(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 solar cells”

Tasks

Investigation of the following issues:

  • Effects of In/Ga, S, and Ag on the collection and recombination behaviors in (Ag,Cu)(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 thin films and solar cells
  • Impact of [Ag]/[Cu] ratio on grain growth and decrease of defect densities
  • Collection and recombination behaviors in solar cells with passivated back contacts

Requirements

  • Master of Science (or equivalent) degree in material science or physics, with above-average grades
  • Demonstrated ability in preparative experimental work and methodology for material characterization
  • Ability to work constructively in a team as well as to solve problems independently
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience in electron microscopy of advantage


What we offer

HZB grants PhD positions for the development of qualified junior scientists. The PhD position is limited to 3 years.The salary will be paid according to 65% of TVöD E13 (wage agreement of public service), which, under specific conditions, can be increased to 75% of TVöD E13.

Der Arbeitsvertrag ist über 36 Monate befristet. Die Bezahlung erfolgt nach dem Tarifvertag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD-Bund).
