ELC Bristol is a family-run, year-round, high quality English language school based in Clifton, Bristol. We are looking for a residence warden to live in and look after the international students in our 30-bedroom student residence in Clifton from as soon as possible. Free accommodation and all bills are included. The role is part-time and may suit a post-graduate student or somebody with another part-time job. The warden works together with the live-in Property Manager and their shared responsibility is to ensure the house runs smoothly, is a safe, clean and friendly environment and a place where students feel comfortable and are happy to live.

Main tasks will include

  • Organising and carrying out check-ins and check-outs of students, generally at weekends
  • Being ‘on call’ and contactable when on duty
  • Patrolling the house and ensuring the house is clean, tidy, organised and a friendly, happy place
  • Controlling and stopping noise disturbance by students, particularly at night
  • Assisting the Property Manager with any behaviour, welfare or medical issues
  • Responding promptly to any maintenance or logistical issues
  • Being the first point of contact for student residents for any issues or questions
  • Assisting and covering for the Property Manager when he is away or during busy intake weekends

– Friendly and positive attitude to working and living with international students

– Helpful and courteous

– Positive ‘can do’ attitude

– Calm, respectful approach to handling student discipline and to problem solving

– Ability to be strict when required

– Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

– Patient and tolerant

– Intercultural understanding and good communication skills with speakers of other languages

– DIY/practical skills an advantage, though not a requirement of the role

Terms and conditions

– 10 core hours per week, mostly evenings and weekends, plus other hours as and when required

– To be ’on call’ and contactable by phone when on duty

– 20 days’ holiday per annum

– Reports to the Property Manager and Self-catering Accommodation Manager
