Students interested in our open positions must be a currently enrolled student at TSTC with a minimum of six credit hours in an eligible degree plan. Eligibility for positions includes good academic standing with a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA. Additional requirements, based on the funding source for the position, may include minimum GPA, demonstrated financial need, and minimum of 12 college hours completed.
The Student Worker position at Texas State Technical College provides part-time employment to undergraduate student who need earnings to help meet their costs of postsecondary educations.
•Provide tutoring services in Developmental & Upper Level Math to students attending TSTC, including students from other TSTC campuses, as needed.
•Establish/maintain effective communication with students and Instructor.
•Maintain records of students participating in tutoring.
•Collaborate with instructor in order to prepare for tutoring, and to develop short video tutorials.
•Promote and encourage student participation in tutoring and/or supplemental instruction through classroom presentations and/or other approved methods.
•Submit reports and all required documentation on a timely basis.
•Attend scheduled training.
•Participate in other program and campus activities and events, as needed.
•Coordinate group study sessions throughout the semester in preparation for exams and other projects.
•Develop notes during classroom observation and supplemental materials that support learning.
•Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must have completed at least 12 college hours at a college campus prior to applying.
•Must be currently enrolled at TSTC for at least SIX college hours.
•Must have a minimum Cumulative GPA of a 2.5 with previous experience, or if tutoring in a technical course in which you earned B’s or higher.
•Must be in Good Academic Standing.
•Must have earned B’s in the courses in which tutoring will be provided.
•Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills. Applicant should have computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Moodle, WebAdvisor, Search Engines, etc.) and skills related to the courses for which tutoring will be provided.
•It is preferred that the applicant have some prior experience working and interacting with other people/students, either through prior work experience and/or a combination of work experience, school activities, and volunteer work or community involvement.
Position is contingent upon meeting the requirements at the end of each semester.
