Job Description

The Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions is currently recruiting for a Director, Student Recruitment and Enrollment. The Director, Student Recruitment and Enrollment will oversee undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, both in-person and online, and monitor enrollment for ASU’s Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions. The Director will design and implement the College recruitment strategy. This will involve assessment of current practices, implementation of innovative practices, and using data analytics to drive the approach. The Director will lead the team in identifying and incorporating emerging techniques and technologies. The Director will oversee a staff of three in addition to several student workers. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and will work closely with the four academic units housed within the College which includes the School of Public Affairs, the School of Criminology & Criminal Justice, the School of Social Work, and the School of Community Resources & Development.

Essential Duties

Develops, implements and modifies strategic student recruitment plan for a consolidated Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions

Collaborates with university teams focused on undergraduate and graduate admissions and teams focused on advisement and retention to ensure consistency in communications efforts to students

Monitors enrollment for all Watts College programs

Directs college-wide recruitment activities

Implements and evaluates college-level and school-level enrollment focused initiatives

Works with senior leadership team including the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean, and four School Directors to establish and implement an effective enrollment strategy

Recruits, hires, trains, develops, supervises, and evaluates staff to ensure optimal achievement of recruitment goals

Provides direct supervision to recruitment coordinators and provides general oversight of a staff of three and several student workers

Consults and collaborates with administrators and other unit staff that perform similar functions at other colleges within the University

Develops new processes and procedures to ensure consistency throughout the University in the implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and practices

Collects and analyzes data to help determine future practices, strategies and initiatives

Leads the staff in a data-driven decision making approach

Serves on University, college, and external committees as appointed, and consults and advises leadership, faculty and staff on matters related to assigned areas of responsibility

Accountable for the development and administration of the department budget, including management of local accounts, making appropriate recommendations for budget requests, and monitoring unit expenditures to ensure optimal use of all available funds

Builds and maintains relationships with community partners, businesses, community colleges, high schools and other organizations

Collaborates with College marketing team to develop, edit and distribute recruitment materials

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in higher education or related field and five (5) years of experience in a higher education environment, including three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Experience in a leadership role in student recruitment

Experience in the administration of student affairs for recruitment, retention, and related services

Experience in a higher education system

Experience in enrollment, advisement, and retention management

Experience with ASU Systems including DARS, PeopleSoft, Canvas, and SalesForce

Experience in planning, scheduling and supervising the work of others

Experience in developing and maintaining interpersonal relations

Experience in presentation, and verbal and written communication

Experience in working with internal and external academic entities

Experience in negotiating and working through complex communication and difficult interpersonal relations issues

Experience in identifying and implementing successful marketing efforts

Experience working in richly diverse environment

Experience working with affiliate community and campus partners

Experience strategic planning, monitoring, and reporting budget

Experience in pulling and analyzing multiple forms of data

Experience in work that requires effective organizational skills and ability to simultaneously prioritize multiple tasks

Experience in stimulating changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment

Experience in leading by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions. Ability to engage university systems to collect and analyze enrollment data to drive decision making.
